ANNUAL CALL FOR MNL NOTES - MNL 74, 2000
...MNL is your Virtual Hotletter and Linkletter!

EXECUTE-IVE SUMMARY
Send your MNL Notes anytime before January 1, 2000. They will go on the Web verbatim, and will be printed in the annual issue. Submission information is given below -- send your items now to share with Cooperators in this fresh, current form. See MNL 73 and earlier issues on-line, which are searchable in full text, at the Cooperation page.

This informal newsletter shares working research information on the genetics and cytogenetics of maize. The information and data are sent by Cooperators with the understanding that they will not be used in publications without their specific consent.

HOW TO SUBMIT NOTES
 1. Notes for MNL 74 need to be in the editor's box before January 1, 2000. Electronic copy is sufficient - see below. Be concise, not formal, but do include specific data, tables, observations and methods. Follow the simple style used in the latest issue (CITY; Institution; Title; --Authors; Text). Include citations in text in the simple format (Authors with initials, Journal, Volume:pp, year), or supply a bibliography, to aid us in indexing and cross-linking.  Figures, charts, and tables should be compact, camera-ready hard copies, and supplied as jpg or gif files if possible.

2. Send an electronic version, one of the following:

a. Attach to an email message to CoeE@Missouri.edu (we will acknowledge receipt and contact you further if necessary).
b. Alternatively, as the text of an email.
c. Alternatively, by FTP to teosinte.agron.missouri.edu; login user anonymous; password your email address. Use the pub/mnl_submit directory, transfer graphics with the bin (not binhex) mode. Name files with the submitter's last name and use a number to distinguish multiple articles. Filenames without internal spaces are preferable. After an FTP submission, alert us with an email to CoeE@Missouri.edu.
d. Alternatively, mail a diskette marked with author, platform (e.g., MS-DOS; Mac) and word processor or ASCII.
If email or other is not feasible, we will hand-enter from your double-spacedhard copy.

Notes will be incorporated *verbatim* in MaizeDB, awaiting the printing of the issue.
In parallel, redacting (editing and formatting) of copy in preparation for the press will proceed by desktop processing. After the deadline passes, the print copy version of the issue, containing those Notes received to that date, plus the Address List and the Stock Center Report, will be finalized and sent to the press. Indexes to Symbols and to Authors and Names cited in that MNL issue will be included.  After printing we will progressively incorporate figures and tables as electronic images; link the articles to database objects for user access and for the development of "Zealand", the Genelist, and Indexes; and carry out flatfile indexing (WAIS indexing). As soon as an object (gene, variation, recombination experiment, etc.) is linked, the article dynamically becomes accessible to database searching. As soon as flatfile indexing can be done, the full text of articles becomes searchable.

Subscription information is available in the Cooperators page.
